“As far back as history tells, the Mist has been with us. Surrounding our borders, keeping us safe. Protecting us from the evils of Outside.” – Excerpt from the sermon of Father William Brahn

“Doomed! Doomed! All is lost! The Mist is not a protection but a prison. A prison for something evil and we are locked inside its cage!” – Words written on the walls of a ruined cathedral

“The history of Nowaria can be traced back 624 years when the ancestors of our people first joined together in a community. Before this time, there are no records and while the long lived elves have memories back from this time, they are few in number and none can agree precisely on what transpired. What is known is that we were once part of a large empire which dispersed for some reason and our ancestors stayed behind in their homes. It was at this time the Gods placed the Mist around them to keep them safe from those who would do harm. They existed peacefully in this fashion eventually coming together as one people instead of the many divided races our nation is comprised of. Today, we still keep this true as all are welcome and there is no racial tension between peoples. Ever since the Mist was gifted to our ancestors, magic has flourished and almost every person possesses at least a basic understanding of the arcane. This has lead many to become adventurers exploring the remains of the empire which existed before our time. Some seek treasure, some seek knowledge, but others seek perhaps the most dangerous thing of all: Truth. A few members of the esteemed Adventurer’s Guild have brought back stories of incredible discoveries in the ruins. Tales of great machines and amazing devices capable of performing tasks which not even magic can reproduce. Few believe these stories, but those that do often leave to adventure themselves seeking these wondrous relics. There is much that we do not know, but most believe these “machines” to be the work of evil and that the empire was destroyed by the Gods as punishment for practicing such evil. They say that those ancestors of ours who remained were granted their lives and the protection of the Mist for ignoring the temptations presented them by the evils of the empire. I myself cannot firmly believe one way or the other and must remain impartial while converting these thoughts to writing. It is hard being a historian, especially when so much of our history has been forgotten." – Excerpt from the journal of Karl Vetibend, Nowarian Historian
